As promised in last week’s post of my five travel journal ideas, I’m back to share a closer look at this soft-cover plain Moleskine that I finally decided to use for my Thailand adventure last year.
What I love:
Price
It ships for free from Book Depository! I ordered and had it shipped directly to my destination so I could start documenting straightaway when I arrived. Book Depository has a much better price than a physical store in this case. Win.
A Midori traveler’s notebook was a close second but I didn’t want to spend money getting a cover + new notebooks and tempt myself by being sucked into another trend where I would end up spending more than I needed to.
Easy to carry around
I didn’t want to have to worry about putting different pages together so I didn’t go a la mini book style. It’s also comes in an easily portable size.
Memory-keeping friendly (Acid- and lignin-free)
I decided against using regular notebooks because they are typically not acid- and lignin-free which was important to me.
What I wish I could change:
Difficult to alter
Since a Moleskine has fixed pages and is already bound together, it would be difficult should I choose to. However, I figured don’t really alter things much when I’m documenting, so that wasn’t a deal breaker.
Page thickness
After stamping on the Moleskine pages with dye ink, I noticed that there was slight bleed through. I haven’t tried watercolors on it yet, but I suppose it might bleed through too. Although I didn’t know how thin the pages would be before I bought the notebook, I don’t mind the slight bleed through. And again, this wasn’t a deal breaker for me even after I got it and I would totally buy a Moleskine again.
What are factors that you consider when deciding how to document?
