Creative Conversations no. 009 | chatting with Pam Llaguno

I first discovered Pam on bloglovin’. And I fell in love with what she does – organizing + Project Life. Totally the things that float my boat. Pam is also a freelance designer and I love seeing her eye for art and design. Her blog is full of creative inspiration, as well as super helpful tips for getting organized and staying stress-free. Read on as we chat about all things creative. Welcome to the blog, Pam!

Tell me about yourself. Hi! I’m Pam, a 21-year old someone from the sunny Philippines. I’m a graphic designer, web developer, blogger and scrapbooker rolled into one convenient sushi. Japan is my creative paradise and I’m determined to be fluent in Japanese. Coffee is my best friend in the mornings, well actually, any time of the day 🙂

What is one weird or interesting fact about you?

Believe it or not, I graduated with a degree of Applied Mathematics, majoring in Mathematical Finance. So, I’m pretty handy with numbers 😉

What do you do to express your creativity?

For the past five years, I was focused on my degree so that only creative thing that I was able to squeeze in were doodling in my planner and the occasional poster for my university organization. But just this year, I’ve started doing Project Life and it’s pretty amazing! Definitely, that’s where about 80% of my creative juices go.

How did you get started doing this?

I discovered Project Life through A Beautiful Mess (which is a totally amazing blog!) and after several hours of Googling about products and watching Youtube videos, I just decided to dive right into it 🙂

What do you love most about what you do to be creative?

The fact that I’m able to immortalize my everyday life at the same time is pretty spectacular. I used to sort of shy away from scrapbooking because I find that scrapbooking a single memory somewhat randomly is a bit too disorganized for me. With Project Life, I see where the album is going. It’s the culmination of all the memories I’ve had for the past 365 days. Pretty cool.

Who or what inspires you?

Fashion and lifestyle photography inspires me a lot. A LOT. I’ve always loved dressing up and developing my own sense of style (I’ve had a few bad choices myself as well…) and I think it really inspires to me to try something new or just experiment with colors, patterns and textures.

How do you stay inspired? What do you do when you feel stuck or uninspired?

I go make myself a nice warm cup of coffee and watch a lot of Youtube videos or scroll through Instagram. Watching lifestyle videos really inspire me and get my gears running! Especially watching well-edited videos. Something about “regular” people crafting footage into amazing videos really gets me going.

Traveling also fills my creative juice tanks to the brim! If only I could travel all the time, I probably would. I’ll definitely go to Japan every month if I could 🙂

Why do you do what you do? What motivates you to be creative?

I’ve always been fascinated about design and was constantly irritated when people tell me that design is just making things pretty. In University, I learned about design thinking, which is basically making design solutions for any problem, and it all clicked. I want to share to people how design can make your life more efficient, organized and best of all, intentional. That goal right there motivates me to be creative 🙂

Describe your creative style.

A healthy mix of messy patterns, clean lines and lots of white space 🙂

Name your top five favorite tools or products.

If were talking about scrapbooking:

  1. Kokuyo adhesive
  2. Alphabet thickers
  3. Labels
  4. Copic Sketch markers
  5. Washi tape 🙂

Are you an early bird or a night owl? When are you most productive?

I’m naturally a night owl but I’m more productive when natural daylight is shining through my workspace.

What project(s) are you currently working on?

I have a couple of websites to design and develop for my amazing Etsy clients and I have lots of good stuff for my blog, Organized! by Pam 🙂 And of course, Project Life 2014 and couple of travel minis 😉

If you had to be a color in a crayon box, which color would you be?

Definitely, black 🙂

If you could possess a super power, which one would you choose?

Teleportation seems pretty cool and extremely convenient. I can just imagine teleporting myself to Japan whenever I want!

What is your favorite quote?

I don’t really have one favorite quote but here are some that really resonates with me:

“Success is never final; failure is never fatal.”

“The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet.” – Frederick Buechner
